5 Tips to Manage Holiday Stress
If thoughts of parties, presents, and family gatherings cause stress this season … you’re not alone..
Nearly one in three Americans expects to be more stressed this holiday than last year, according to the American Psychiatric Association.
At Brainerd Primary Care, we understand the importance of mental and emotional health — and we’re here to help.
Here are five tips from our providers to make the holidays less stressful:
Avoid overcommitment of your time and effort. Set boundaries so you’re not feeling obligated to bounce from event to event — and remember: It IS okay to say no.
Stick to your routines as much as possible. While a “cheat day” or two is to be expected during family gatherings and company parties, do you best to maintain a healthily diet and consistent exercise routine.
Practice mindfulness and meditation. Take a few minutes each day to block out the noise and quiet your mind, focusing on what is important and brings you joy.
Plan your spending. Make a budget at least 2-3 months before the holidays — and stick to it. While it’s tempting to buy a gift (or three) for everyone in your life, the reality is that a handwritten note or handmade gift would likely mean more to them.
Get fresh air and sunlight. Walking is one of the best ways to manage stress, so take conversations with family and friends outside — or if you need a break from the noise, take a walk by yourself!
